Research and Development in solar technologies will always be needed and in demand. Electrical, mechanical, and chemical engineering; materials science, and/or physics professionals can fill these positions. Selling, manufacturing, designing, installing, and maintaining equipment requires both professional and skilled workers, too. Therefore, salesman, installers, designers, and maintenance workers are needed to bring the solar technologies into the commercial market. Designing and building solar power plants will require engineers and construction workers, architects and builders.
EducationIt’s true that many solar jobs require good educational backgrounds, but according to many experts a good portion of these positions will not require that much educational experience/background. People with some science training and a lot of determination can enter any engineering field and excel in it. The only question is: Can you convince hiring managers to take a chance on you? There are several degree-granting programs available in the U.S. for solar-specific training. You may want to check out our renewable energy education page for more information.
